Matt Riddle Released By WWE

Matt Riddle Released By WWE WWE

UPDATE: A WWE higher-up has addressed Matt Riddle being released – read more at this link.

Following all the WWE releases yesterday, Matt Riddle has just tweeted:

Just wanted to inform everyone that I’m no longer with WWE. Thank you for the memories and opportunities also thank you to all the fans for the support and love you give me every time I go out to the ring. See you all soon

PWInsider has confirmed Riddle was released.

The release reportedly took place around 5:30pm ET today, Friday, September 22.

Yesterday, WWE released the likes of Dolph Ziggler, Elias, Mustafa Ali, Dana Brooke and Shelton Benjamin among many others. For the full list of WWE releases, click here.

This all comes just over a week after WWE’s merger with Endeavor/UFC to form TKO was finalized.

Over 100 WWE employees were also let go in the aftermath of that deal.

Riddle signed with WWE in 2018 as a member of the NXT roster, with his final match coming at the September 4 Raw where he and Drew McIntyre lost to the Viking Raiders. The storyline looked to be heading in the direction of McIntyre going heel and turning on Riddle.

During his time in WWE, Riddle won the NXT Tag Team Championship alongside Pete Dunne (Butch), the WWE United States Championship, and the Raw Tag Team Championship alongside Randy Orton twice.

Issues did come up during Riddle’s WWE tenure, including sexual assault allegations (from before he joined the company), failed drug tests that led him to rehab, and the recent incident at LFK International airport where he accused a cop of sexual assault but had himself been reported as being “disorderly”.

We’ll keep you posted with any further updates.
