An injury at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam caused a sudden change of plans, when Jon Moxley suffered a concussion during his International Championship defence against Rey Fenix.
Moxley’s injury caused an audible to be called, with Fenix defeating Moxley to capture the International Championship.
With Moxley injured, the plans for WrestleDream changed, as Mox was originally slated to defend the International Championship on the show against a ‘non-AEW’ wrestler.
Instead, Claudio Castagnoli ended up facing off against Josh Barnett on the Zero Hour pre-show, but the show didn’t go without an appearance from Moxley.
Ahead of the match, Moxley accompanied Claudio to the ring, before he sat on commentary and provided guest commentary for the bout.
Claudio would end up picking up the win with a cradle on Barnett after a hard hitting encounter.
There is currently no timetable on when Moxley will be cleared to return to the ring following his concussion.
