WWE Star Set For First PPV/PLE Singles Match In 16 Years

WWE Star Set For First PPV/PLE Singles Match In 16 Years WWE

A WWE star is set to compete in their first singles match at a Premium Live Event/pay-per-view in 16 years.

On SmackDown (November 17) it was made official that Santos Escobar and Carlito will go one-on-one at WWE’s final main roster PLE of the year in Chicago, IL, Survivor Series.

While the match carries great storyline significance following Escobar’s betrayal of Rey Mysterio and the LWO, it will also be a momentous occasion for Carlito.

Prior to his return to WWE at Fastlane in October and a very brief return to WWE in early 2021, Carlito’s last stint as an active performer in WWE came all the way back in 2010.

And you would need to go back 16 years to 2007 to find his last singles match on a WWE PLE/PPV.

In fact the Puerto-Rican native’s last eight matches at WWE PLE/PPV events have all been multi-men matches, with his last one-on-one singles PLE/PPV match coming at September 2007’s Unforgiven event.

Funnily enough this last major WWE singles match came against current WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H, who did beat Carlito in that match.

Carlito will no doubt be hoping for a different result against his friend turned enemy Escobar.

It at least seems that Carlito may also have the additional support of the rest of the LWO, after Joaquin Wilde, Cruz Del Toro and Zelina Vega all decided against following Santos Escobar out of the group on SmackDown (November 17).

Despite this, Escobar may instead find himself with some new helpers before too long according to a recent report.
