Details On Unplanned Changes To AEW TV AEW

Details about the recent AEW Dynamite overrun have revealed the state of the relationship between the company and TBS.

The Thanksgiving Eve episode of AEW Dynamite on November 22 drew a viewership that was up on the previous week’s numbers.

While the show itself would draw 845,000 viewers, it would end with an overrun that drew around 666,000.

The drop off is believed to be due to DVRs not recording the overrun, which was revealed as unplanned.

Dave Meltzer would reveal the details along with shedding light on the relationship between AEW and TBS on Wrestling Observer Radio, saying:

“The deal is it’s because it’s not planned. This was not planned to go seven minutes long, but the way the show was going… and it really speaks a lot about Tony’s relationship with TBS. Because essentially, the show’s running late, ‘Hey, can we have seven extra minutes?’, and it’s like, ‘Yes, you can’, at the last minute. And yeah you pay the price on the DVR viewership, but you get to finish the show.

“The fact that they can do it on the fly… Raw used to have that power to do it on the fly if they needed to because they were such a highly rated show.

“Again, it shows… a lot of people who think this show’s not doing well and blah blah blah, this is another example that TBS is (supporting AEW)… and even for Collision they’ve done it, more than once.”

As previously reported, the viewership for the episode was the second-highest total viewership for Dynamite since September 27.

In the key 18-49 demographic, Wednesday’s show scored 0.26 rating, tying for the third-lowest demo rating for AEW Dynamite in 2023.
