AEW AEW star Bryan Danielson has named a star who he really wanted in the Continental Classic tournament, questioning why the top star isn’t involved.
Danielson is one of twelve competitors competing in AEW’s first round robin tournament, with the popular star part of the tournament’s Gold League.
Fans will get to see Danielson wrestle five notable names in the group stage of the tournament, ahead of the tournament finals at the World’s End pay-per-view.
Speaking with Mail Sport’s Alex McCarthy, Danielson admitted that he wanted Kenny Omega to be in the tournament.
Stating that the pitch was at least brought to Omega, Danielson explained:
“‘I really wanted Kenya Omega in it and I don’t know. People think I do a lot more than I do.
“I don’t know what happened or why he’s not in the tournament.
“I know it was at least brought up to him and I don’t know if he didn’t want to do it or I know that he and Chris Jericho are the number one contenders for the Tag team championship. So maybe that’s why, you know.
“And sometimes, you know, with American TV wrestling, you don’t want to confuse stories, and maybe that’s why.
“But but I love the field that we have, cause we have so many like great hard hitting wrestlers. The matches have been really, really good so far in the Continental classic.”
Omega and Chris Jericho became the AEW Tag Team Title #1 contenders at Full Gear, defeating the Young Bucks to earn the wagered title shot.
Danielson is part way through his final year as a full-time wrestler, with the popular star announcing in September that he had one more year left before he’d go part-time.
