‘I Don’t Like Being Handcuffed’ – AEW Star Explains WWE Exit WWE/AEW

Ahead of her in-ring debut in the company, top AEW star Mercedes Mone has detailed her WWE exit, saying “I don’t like being handcuffed.”

At AEW Big Business, former WWE and IWGP Women’s Champion Mercedes Mone made her long awaited debut with the company.

This marked her first appearance on a major American wrestling promotion since her high profile exit from WWE in 2022.

In a new interview with Cameron Hawkins of The Ringer, Mercedes Mone detailed her decision to leave WWE to head to Japan for NJPW/STARDOM and later join All Elite Wrestling. She said:

“I don’t like being handcuffed,”

“The only place to grow is with change, and I needed that change.” 

Mercedes Mone will challenge Willow Nightingale for the TBS Championship this Sunday, May 26 at AEW Double Or Nothing.
