WWE/AEW Mercedes Mone has revealed the issues she had within WWE that she described as like ‘pulling teeth’ compared to AEW.
While Mone wouldn’t be drawn on the drama of her decision to walk away from WWE, she did provide some insight during a recent interview with WFAN.
In addition to saying that her decision was partly informed by her ‘need to grow‘, she also revealed the difficult of getting time off in WWE.
Asked about issues taking up opportunities outside of wrestling, Mone looked at her role in Disney’s The Mandalorian in 2020, saying:
“That’s definitely a big reason why I came to AEW [the difficulties of accepting outside opportunities while in WWE].
“Even doing The Mandalorian was pulling teeth with the WWE, to even try and get time off to film that show.
“Tony [Khan] says, whatever I need. If I need the private jet to go from filming in LA to coming for a show, it’s available for me.”
Recently, Mone revealed that Tony Khan had made his private jet available to her so that she could be with her brother during a health issue.
Of her time filming The Mandalorian, Mone compared shooting for television to shooting wrestling, feeling that she had the best years in wrestling between 2019 and 2020 thanks to what she learned.
On June 30, 2024, Mone faces Stephanie Vaquer in Winner Takes All Match for the TBS Championship and the NJPW Strong Women’s Championship at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door.
